Yesterday, I upgraded my PC with a 780 Ti, and directly fired up Assassins Creed 4. And I was disappointed. Performance was mediocre at best, not at all what I expected. And, worst of all: Even with adaptive VSync forced through the driver, I would get terrible, terrible tearing, even when looking at the sky.I made some experiments, and found out the following things:.The AC4 vsync that you can toggle through the settings is terrible.

It locks at 30 most of the time, but often jumps to 60, and often even to 20. But still, I got definitely noticeable tearing - it was pretty much shit.

Don't use it.AC4 doesn't by default use Triple Buffering, which can help a lot.AC4 doesn't support windowed or borderless windowed modes. Or does it?I have noticed that sometimes, my game would 'glitch' out a little and actually run in a borderless window that wasn't fullscreen (You can 'feel' when a game goes fullscreen, by the time it takes for the monitor to adjust and generally a short black screen, also when you alt-tab, a fullscreen game simply shows a blank window). And surprisingly enough: The tearing was gone. Adaptive vsync worked flawlessly. My framerate was much more constant, even in big cities.-TLDR-SLI USERS: Running a game in non- fullscreen will cause SLI to not work.

I was using the framerate cap via MSI Afterburner and even at a steady 60 fps I was still getting a bunch of tearing. Mount and blade healing. And now I find that for whatever bizarre reason your method works, it totally got rid of the tearing. That trick definitely turns it into a windowed mode as I have an overlay that's 'always on top' of the other windows and that stayed over the top of ACIV when I performed the click trick.I would prefer to use D3Doverrider but I can't figure out how to actually run the program in Windows 8.1.
