Where To Install Fallout 2 Restoration Project

Posted on

Another RP release packed full of fixes is at hand and we even have some restored content to go with it too! With the imminent arrival of Wasteland 2, hopefully you can get at least one more Fallout 2 round in.Will there be more RP releases? Well, you can only chisel away for so long, but there does seem to be some critter animations (Punk Girl, actual combat leather jacket animations, etc) being worked on and it would be a shame if they didn't find their way into the RP. And of course bug lists make me sad. But I will say this, if you've been waiting, don't wait anymore. It seems obsession is the only driving force for me to keep working on these continued updates and that's just not as fun as it should be.Now there is the question of source code.

Well, the fact that I'm finally releasing it might be a tell-tale sign of a real retirement at hand. But like I said above, at this point I don't think that's truly possible for me. I'd also like to say that by releasing this source code I am in no way handing over the reigns for others to do RP releases. Perhaps that's selfish of me, but I've put too much into this work to let others do what they want. Of course, anyone is free to make their own mods based on or for the RP; that is more than welcome and that's the point of releasing the source. But if the RP/UP is to be officially updated, that will only happen through me.So without further ado, enjoy!Note: Previous 2.3.x save games should be compatible, but to ensure no problems come up please start anew.

There are some areas that will potentially break with old saves unless you enter them for the first time. You've been warned.Bug reports should be added to the Fallout 2 RP bug report wiki. A link can be found below. Posting issues only in this thread risks your report being lost over time.Installation instructions:1. Make a clean installation of Fallout 2 (humongous install). If you are running Vista/7/8, be sure to NOT install in the c:program files directory.2.

Download and install the RP (only use the manual install if you really know what you're doing)3. Don't install anything else, unless you know what you're doing!Direct links:Windows installer (recommended):Manual install (advanced users):Script sources:.POST FIXES.None at this time.In addition to a dozen or so vanilla fixes (listed in the ), below are RP specific fixes found in this release:RP 2.3.3 Change Log. Code:New Content:. Restored bell sounds before each round when boxing in New Reno. This was prevented before by a vanilla bug.

Cult of Personality now also applies to town reputations and not just global reputations. This was accidently omitted when I restored the Cult of Personality perk to the game. 23 scripts were modified for this latest change, mostly in Klamath and Vault City. In total, only 58 out of over 1,000 scripts make use of this perk, which just goes to show that the reaction system was never truly fleshed out in this game. I am trying to get the splash screens to display (GET READY. Presumably they actually do, it is just so quick that they never actually make it to my monitor screen. I thought that the High Res Patch gave the option for displaying for a fixed number of seconds but that does not appear to be the case.

It looks like user provided art (EDIT:.BMP format, but what on Earth is.RIX format? There don't seem to be any examples in my F2 folder) which is stored in the folder dataartsplash (which the user must create) should be displayed, however.I'm sad.

Well given that all the Fallout games are on sale on Steam now, I decided to finish my collection and pick up Fallout 2 (And Tactics).Being fairly seasoned with the Fallout fan base and having great satisfaction with Fallout Fixt, I obviously went and downloaded the Fallout 2 Restoration Project.

This is all on SteamI had some problems with the first installation because the installer told me the ddraw ini file 'was already there'. I remedied this by moving the ddraw file out of the Fallout 2 folder then clicking the installer's 'retry' option. Same thing with with f2res file.Fallout Fixt for Fallout 1 gave me an alternate EXE to use to play the game with Fixt. Fallout 2 RP did not. So I assume i'm using the mod when I select 'Play' from Steam. The mod tells me to 'look at the rock' behind some tribal guy in Arroyo at the literal start of the game.

So I do but the rock doesn't really say anything other than 'A very large pile of rocks, they look dangerous just sitting there'.EDIT: I did install it correctly, I just didn't see the tiny rock. I thought the rock referenced was the big pile. No, you didn't install it correctly. The rock is quite visible near Klint, you wouldn't have any trouble seeing it.For Steam, make sure you're not allowing them to synchronize your files in any way, or the mod will be erased when Steam updates your installation. The Restoration Project is full of all kinds of great stuff, I wouldn't consider playing FO2 without it.

Any comments that the RP might be 'broken' or 'poor quality' are almost certainly either sheer ignorance or motivated by jealousy. Everything works fine with the mod, so if you have troubles then you didn't install correctly. The game should work properly in its default state.

I've been playing Fallout 2 with the original vanilla patches for decades and I feel it's not in any real need of 'restoration.' I've had TRP break long games in ways I didn't discover until the game was nearly done, and all it offered were some unfinished quests that were really only interesting to me because I'd already finished a billion playthroughs (sort of like a 'making of' video). So, if you haven't yet gotten to play through Fallout 2, I recommend just giving vanilla a spin; don't be married to TRP if it isn't working, chances are it is indeed actually broken. No matter whether you're using vanilla or TRP, the initial 'Temple of Trials' area is horrible and not representative of the rest of the game. IIRC they were forced to put it in. It starts being a lot more fun after you leave Arroyo.
