Dell Laptop Turns Off When Closed

Hi Robby,Welcome to the HP Forums!I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide.I understand that before you did a HP update you were able to close the lid and reopen without Windows restarting, but no longer. You have checked the power management setting and the option for what happens when you close the lid, but no change.I suggest you do a scan for corrupted files.

This process will also try to repair any corrupted files it locates.Go to the command prompt and right click on it and run as administratorType sfc /scannow and press enterWait for this to complete and restart your notebook.Windows 8 has a built in troubleshooter you could also try.Press the Windows key + C to open charmsType troubleshoot performance and press enter.Follow the on screen prompts. If that did not help. You can do a restore back to before you installed the update. You also have the optiion to do a. To be on the safe side I would backup your personal data first, to ensure no personal data is lost. You could also do a recovery back to factory. You will receive a prompt to backup your personal files to prevent data loss, if you have not done one recently, I suggetst you do one now. With the notebook being a fairly recent purchase, you could also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely log onto your system to aid with locating and resolving issues. Please call HP technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. Hi rmf21982,I understand that you called HP and they did not resolve the issue. You took it back to Best Buy and exhchanged it.The HP update came through and now the issue is on the replacement. This is what I think maybe happening.

When you get your notebook, you set it up to perform that way you want when you close the lid. The updates comes through and assumes that the settings are set to the defaults and does the installation. This is causing corruption in the power schemes, so when you try to change them back it does not have any effect.Would you try this step.Go to the command prompt and right click and run as administrator.Type powercfg /resetdefaultschemes and press enter.Wait for it to complete and restart your computerThis will reset it.Now make the changes so that closing the lid does as you want it to.Please let me know if this has helped.

Hi,Please do try changing these settings in Power Options that may help.- Open Power Options then click on Change Plan Settings then Change Advanced Power Settings.- Expand Hard Disk then set Turn off Hard disk after to NEVER.- Expand Sleep and set Allow hyrbid sleep to OFF.- Set Hibernate after to NEVER.- Do also set Sleep Mode to Never.- Click Apply and OK then test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.- Do also make sure that the mouse and keyboard are both set to wake up the laptop. Thanks for the response. I did everything as you instructed (though the only thing I had to change were the settings in Hard Disk to NEVER), but unfortunately my laptop is still restarting when I close the lid =(. Hi, i have the same problem with this laptop after i swapped hdd with the same ssd.

Have you found any solution for this issue?I have an answer, but I can't call it a solution.I ended up emailing Samsung Support about it and this was their response:'Did you clone to the SSD or did you do a fresh install of the OS? If cloned, that could be what's causing the issue. Also, we would advise you not to use sleep mode as it is possible.

Due to its low power state, that sleep can brick the SSD. With the speed that SSDs reach, sleep and/or hibernate are no longer necessary as the power down and boot up so much quicker than an HDD.' I've resigned to just dealing with it now since I don't want to risk bricking the SSD haha. Hope this helps! Hi, i have the same problem with this laptop after i swapped hdd with the same ssd. Hope this helps! Thanks for your reply. So, while i'm too lazy to make clean install of os now, i just have to deal with this issue). Hey,I had the same problem and force installing the latest BIOS update fixed the issue. Basically, I installed BIOS v208 over v208.If WinFlash says that you already have the latest version and cannot upgrade it, just start the WinFlash.exe using /nodate parameter.Edit: Just to clarify, it is not that Asus released a new BIOS update that fixes this issue. In contrary, Asus claims that these sleep issues are not of its concern and will not fix (you read it right). Just re-installing the latest version somehow fixes it.Edit 2: This issue is not specific to N550JK.

I heard Asus customers from all different models of Asus notebooks having the same problem. Hey,I had the same problem and force installing the latest BIOS update fixed the issue.
